# Tour of the Wavefront Console

> Sign in, add an app, and find each building block in the UI

The Wavefront Console is where you build and operate apps. This page shows where everything is. Later pages explain each section in depth.

## Signing in

Open your console's address and sign in with your console account. If you forget your password, use **Reset here** under the sign-in form to get a reset link by email.

## The app list

After signing in you see every app this console manages, with its status.

From here you can:

* **open an app** to work inside it;
* **add an app** (see below);
* **edit an app**'s name or URLs;
* **manage console users** (who can sign in to this console).

### Adding an app

An app is a Wavefront backend that is already running (see [Operations](/operations/architecture) for how to deploy one). To manage it from the console, register it:

| Field | What to enter |
| - | - |
| **App Name** | A name people will recognise, such as "Claims – staging" |
| **Deployment Type** | **Manual** for an app you deployed yourself |
| **Public URL** | The address your users and your application use to reach the app |
| **Private URL** | The address the console uses to reach the app, usually an internal network address. It can be the same as the public URL |

The console and the app share a secret, configured when the app is deployed. The console uses it to create a short-lived credential for each request, so the app trusts the console without you signing in to the app.

## Inside an app

Opening an app shows its sidebar. Each entry is one building block:

| Section | What you do there |
| - | - |
| **Agents** | Create agents in YAML, test them in a chat panel (text, images and documents), manage versions |
| **Workflows** | Create workflows in YAML, run them with input and variables, view and switch versions |
| **Functions** | Create and test JavaScript functions (message processors) used by workflows |
| **LLM Repository** | Add the models the app may use, with their keys |
| **Datasources** | Connect databases and file storage, save and run dynamic queries, upload and download files |
| **Configurations** | Create and edit the JSON documents workflows read at run time |
| **Chatbots** | Create and edit chatbots: system prompt, welcome message, model and settings |
| **Knowledge Bases** | Upload and index documents for retrieval |
| **Guardrails** | Define checks on model input and output |
| **API Services** | Define outbound APIs agents and workflows can call |
| **Authenticators** and **OAuth Apps** | Configure how users and external systems sign in to the app |
| **Emails** | Connect mailboxes |
| **Scheduled Jobs** | Run work on a schedule |
| **Voice Agents** | Build voice agents, with speech-to-text, text-to-speech and telephony settings |

Some sections appear only when the feature is enabled for your deployment.

## Testing as you build

You can test most building blocks without writing any code:

* **Agents** have a chat panel. Type in the **Ask anything** box and send. The **+** button next to it lets you **Select Images**, **Select Documents** or **Add variables** (as JSON). Above the conversation you can turn **Stream** on to see the reply as it is generated, and pick which **version** to test; below it you can try a different model from the LLM Repository without changing the agent.
* **Workflows** show their YAML on the left and the same chat panel on the right, with a **JSON output** toggle to pretty-print the result. Variables go in through **+ → Add variables**.
* **Functions** can be run on a sample input.
* **Dynamic queries** can be run with parameters.

Chatbots are tried from your application, or through the chat API (see [Chatbots](/wavefront/chatbots)); the console does not have a chat panel for them yet.

> [!TIP]
>
> Build bottom-up: test each agent and function on its own before putting them in a workflow. When a workflow misbehaves, you will already know each step works by itself.

## Users of an app

Console users manage apps. **App users**, the accounts your application and its people use to call an app's API, are managed per app, by app admins, through the app's user management API. See [Users and access](/wavefront/users-and-access).
